Whilst neighbouring Uruguay and Brazil have had plenty of black footballers, including their greatest players of all time in the forms of Pele and Jose Andrade, the same cannot be said for Argentina.

Despite sharing a similar colonial past to their near neighbours, Argentina’s black population is a fraction of the nation’s around them, and following a question from a subscriber during the 2018 World Cup, HITC Sevens takes a look at why that is the case.

  3. Racism in the southern cone was no diff from North America. However, in countries of the southern cone esp. Argentina, there was no major segregation policy unlike the north.

This process was similar to that of the rest of the continent (with different results depending on the volume of immigration and the particular demographic characteristics of each region) and is known as whitening."

  5. I don't know how much practical knowledge this Brit has with Argentina but I do know the word "negro" can refer to a black person, a person who likes to wear black, a person with black hair. My aunt's nick name was "La negra" meaning black haired. But she was white of Italian/French descent.

  9. That is because there are a lot of Europeans in Argentina and it is known to be another Europe outside of Europe. Nothing wrong with that. I am very old fashioned like many Argentines are Conservative. When I see soccer teams I expect to see the majority of a people represented in those teams from those countries/nations . A lot of Chinese in China? I expect to see Chinese players and not whites nor blacks. They are a minority! When I see a Japanese team I expect Japanese in those ranks. And not Argentines or whites or blacks. They would be a minority too! When I see a Jamaican team I expect black looking people there and not whites or Asians! They are the majority. Mixing races in every team is misleading, chaotic. How can you tell which team Is which if they all look alike? Clones. Mixed? No. It’s wrong. Soccer tends to be traditional in those areas. They just can find any way of victimization, every mean for self – exclusion, all the ways for spread resentment and hate, and finally a way for attack and destroy a society with violence. No matter how do you want genuinely to integrate them in your society; they will always find a way to try to destroy your society justifying their accions with some exclusion. They became victimaries, not victims. US is just a warning, and I think the black people is not the only threat. We can trust about our migrant neighbors in some degree, but outside latin america things change dramatically. Argentina has enough problems. Add this "anglopeople problem" to our country just because we are under this kind of propaganda attack can bring our destruction for granted. I wonder if really some part of the world wants to see my country completely destroyed; sometimes I think yes, specially from some anglosaxon centres of power. May be not only our politicians wants to see our country burned to ashes. I see the anglosaxon ignorance, arrogance and malice in action, in this video, again. And the hipocrisy too, because the "anglosphere" is the most racist thing on the world and cinically cries about such defects in other societies and cultures. And I make extensive this acussation to black people within that "anglosphere"; many of them are directly black supremacist with no difference with their white counterparts.

Blacks in Argentina (and the same territory before being Argentina) once were many but due to racial mixing they become "diluted" into the white majority and the significant amerindian minority. There was no genocide, they were not over represented in armies or militias front lines (or as soldiers in general) during 19th century neither a single epidemic in one single city kill them, that is just ridiculous. There was slavery and segregation here but was less violent and preminent than in other parts of the continent. And also there was and there is racism, that is more than most Argentines think but less than other South Americans think, and in fact is more directed against amerindians than against blacks.

  38. there's no relevant evidence of sarmiento orchestrating any genocide even thought he was a racist fuck who thought black people were inferior nor that the yellow fever and wars had any relevant effect in the black population. Black people were given the worst jobs with the worst living conditions and they would even lose those jobs as europeans immigrants arrived in mass to argentina.
