The 1990 FIFA World Cup Final was a football match played between West Germany and Argentina to determine the winner of the 1990 FIFA World Cup. The game took place on 8 July 1990 at the Stadio Olimpico in Italy’s capital and largest city, Rome, and was won 1–0 by West Germany, with a late penalty kick taken by Andreas Brehme being the game’s only goal.
The match marked several firsts in World Cup history. This was the first rematch of a final and, to date, the only back-to-back rematch, as Argentina defeated West Germany in the previous final. Argentina became both the first team to fail to score in a World Cup final, and the first defending champion to reach the final and lose. West Germany’s victory over Argentina marked the first time a UEFA side defeated a CONMEBOL side in a final (all previous finals between the two continents were won by South Americans).
West Germany became the first team to play in three consecutive finals (they played in the 1982 and 1986 finals), a feat only repeated by Brazil in 1994, 1998, and 2002. It was West Germany’s last World Cup match; the team played three more games before a unified German team was formed later in 1990, as a result of the reunification of the country after more than 40 years.

The same dark blue jersey which was worn in the 2014 final the same number 1-0 lost ?
Como me gusta ese uniforme argentino, elegante azul marino
С Батей радовались. Все матчи просмотрели вместе и днём и ночью. Был интересный чемпионат мира по футболу 1990!!!
The worst final fifa ever
After this, it took Germany 12 years to have again a decent team in a World Cup
Couple red cards, and couple yellow cards. This was a physical game. The Argentinians appeared tired, may be because of the tough opponents they faced in the tournaments.
Old football✊?
судья испортил весь матч,пеналь очень спорный!
Fue el peor momento de los finales de copa del mundo, Alemania hizo trampa y el árbitro cometió el error para que Argentina perdiera la final
Shame that Argentina went into the final with so many first team players suspended and Germany with full strength and yet they beat them only on one penalty goal. It showed how strong Argentina were and with Maradona they were ruling the world.
トログリオ、なんかデルヴェッキオとイメージがかぶる
Fact: Cannot win a match without having a single shot on goal. Not sure what Argentina plan was.
Soccer is a ridiculous sport and that's why it will never catch on in North America. To decide a World Final on a dive like that is an outrage. I'm not surprised that Germany cheated though, that's typical of them.
O certo do jogo era 1 1 e prorroGaçao
O arbitor nesse dia tava com a camisa da alemanha
Argentina foi robada penaty em maradona
2014
It's official this is the worst fifa world cup final I have seen . Also is surprising around the world people talk about kilinsman ,Volker, but no one I know talks about lambaski, what a fine player .
Referee played for Germany ?
Argentina had reached the 1990 World Cup final scoring 5 goals in 6 matches (by the skin of their teeth). They squeezed in after surviving a Brazilian blitz including 3 shots hitting the post in the round of 16. And back-to-back penalty shootouts against Yugoslavia and Italy (both of those teams played better in the quarters and semis). In short, Germany won because they applied themselves in that one-sided final. Argentina did not have a single chance to score; Argentina entered the German area 3 times in the entire match! There was a Maradona free kick (49th minute) that went high; and a lobbed back-pass (43rd minute) from Augenthaler to Illgner that he had to jump high to cling to the ball. Other than that, the final was an avalanche of German drives: Voeller (3rd, 13th, 54th minutes, from very close range each time), Littbarski (47th minute, closest chance to score on open play, what would have been a beautiful goal), Berthold's header (53rd minute very close miss), and Brehme (71st minute on a long-range shot). There were rumors of a possible penalty (what triggered the "robo" hysteria from albiceleste fans salivating for a miracle) on Argentina in the 78th minute (Lorenzo falling on a Matthaeus attempt to get the ball, but I did not see anything worth calling a penalty). There was, though, a tackle on Augenthaler by Goycoechea in the 61st minute that looked like a clear penalty to me. In all, Argentina were lucky not be routed 4-0; twenty years later Messi's Argentina lost to Germany by that score, but they deserved to score at least twice with a far more attacking team. You got to give it to Argentina; they played that 1990 final to lose by as few goals as possible; they succeeded.
Das war kein Elfmeter ?
I'm brazilian, but I don't think that it was penalty.
Where’s VAR when you need it, ?
