Will Brazil or Argentina finally rise to the occasion in their semifinal clash? | Copa America



ESPN FC’s Steve Nicol and Janusz Michallik preview the blockbuster clash of the 2019 Copa America: Brazil vs. Argentina. Nicol says he’s «apprehensive» the semifinal will live up to the hype because both sides have underwhelmed so far in the tournament. Michallik says this is «one of the worst Argentina sides» he’s ever seen, but believes anything is possible for Lionel Scaloni’s team with Lionel Messi on the pitch.

  14. I still hope Argentina win this match and win the Copa America 2019. Football is unpredictable, Messi can hit his form in this semifinal and who knows he and Argentina can go all the way and win it.

Brazil is definitely the favourite, their defence is much higher class than Argentina and if they play counter like Colombia they have a good chance to win, and even if Tite plays normally through Coutinho(who is much improved in the 10 role), with Firmino or Jesus up front, they can win with improved midfield control(Arthur is doing very well) over Argentina and better defence. Never count against Messi though, if Paredes and Rodriguez can hold down the back, and Lo Celso and De Paul can funnel the ball forwards, Martinez’s speed, Aguero’s positioning and Messi’s magic can break past Brazil. With Tagliafico raiding down the left, Argentina can find chances, but Otamendi needs to step up with Pezzella and Foyth to fill in the gaps.

    I think Brazil will win but I hope Argentina make it through. If there was ever a moment for Messi to declare his return internationally after the World Cup, this is it.

Brazil base their strategy on playing good and scoring goals their own way …they believe they are the better team …on the other hand other teams Centre everything they do on stopping Messi …so I think if Messi had a chance to shine in any one of these matches it would be this Brazil match… he should have more freedom and space

Argentina are getting better every game , while Brazil seems they have no stable rhythm , it is more like (good ,bad , good , bad ) matches , so if they played bad like they did against Paraguay and Venezuela and Messi awakes in this match , looking to the fact he was so quiet in this tournament till now , then it is going in Argentina's favor .
