  1. He can't kick. Full stop. Either he is coached or someone else must kick for posts. Elton can't kick for posts either. It takes coaching and practice which it is blatantly obvious not nearly enough is happening.

  2. You cannot compare Damian willemse or any rugby player to Tiger woods, Roger Federer. They had coaches as they were individual sports, with alot more going on than a kick at the goalpost. No one knows your kicking more than yourself, a sports phycologist or mental coach I do believe would be very beneficial to a kicker.

  3. I will love if they give the "no.9" kicking to demain willemse….he will recover and kick better give him few more games…im sure off that…he didnt rattle me the no.9 rattles me and like previous game starts doing the clearance kicking aswell…….owen is correct and yes all professional teams had kicking coaches…🤗

  4. What a silly conversation. Willemse is supposed to be a 12, but played 15 and 10 this championship. he is not a great kicker and should practice Jonathan. Ask Naas how he practiced by himself. if you want to be the best, you work. Done. Sometimes you try to be too clever and sometimes you a little protective of black/brown players that make mistakes. Your panel criticize everybody, but not you.

  5. Nice show. Keep it up boys. I agree with the need for a kicking coach, but wouldn't that be where someone like Frans can step in, as a coaching role while playing. Similar to Duane for the forwards.

  6. 😂😅🤣
“No. I disagree. You do NOT need a kicking coach ! ……It is a ‘feeling’ that the player has.”

    🤣
But ‘life coaches’ are critical … 🤨

    🤡😂🤣🤡🤣😂🤡🤣😂🤡

  7. Willemse simply has an alignment issue. If he had a kicking coach, they would have identified that. He lines up too far on the inside. That's why he has massive hook curve and misses left or pushes it right without any curve coming back.

  8. What is Jono talking about? Does he hear the words coming out of his own mouth? By his logic, nobody needs a coach. They just review and figure it out themselves…what?!

  9. I think decisions made by captain when we get pens makes a difference. He should be able to see that his fly half doesnt have confidence and instead of kicking to post, rather punt and get the lineout. Dont put him under more pressure. But our captain cant size up the crucial moments. Damian’s run up is too long and he’s reaching for the ball by the time he gets there.

  10. Owen asks interesting questions at times, but it seems he's already decided what answers he wants. And it's usually the automatic opposite of the replies that he gets from his studio guests.

Owen's humility and decades of top flight international rugby and international coaching success are evident. Perhaps he should have his own weekly monologue show, and SS can save the expenses and logistics of hosting green-horn pundits like Nick Mallett and Swys de Bruin to give their ill-informed opinions. It may also be a wise move to avoid another potential Ashwin Willemse debacle…

On the actual rugby front, it's clear that Willemse can kick, but doesn't pay it much attention and it will end up costing the Boks a game if he finds himself in the 10 jersey more often. It's a clear cut work-on for him if he is to become a "Frans Steyn" 2.0

On the upside, remember how bad a kicker Percy Montgomery was until Jake White recalled him for the 2007 WC? He transformed himself into the most reliable goal-kicker of that WC and essentially won the final with Frans Steyn adding the icing to the cake. WIllemse is a better naturally gifted runner than Frans Steyn, and so he just needs to fix up his kicking to become great.

  11. The one thing that all great players have in common isn't talent, it's practice, practice, practice. And when you think you've made it, PRACTICE!! Willemse needs to be the first at training, practicing his kicking, and the last to leave, practicing his kicking game. He should be pissing off the kicking coaches by calling them up at midnight to talk about how he can improve his kicking game.

  12. Fun fact. Played rugby with Morne Steyn at highschool in Bloem. Was an average kicker at best and often wasn't even the designated kicker, although he ran circles around everyone. Coached by Naas as soon as he joined the Bulls and the rest is history. Great, humble guy.
