The second quarterfinal of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup was the South American Classic, with Brazil downing Argentina 5-1 on Saturday evening at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles to get the second ticket of the day to the Semifinals.
Brazil started to show their Joga Bonito in the 19’, with Vitoria Yaya scoring a header in the box after MF Bia Zaneratto assisted her from the left side for a 1-0 lead.
The second Brazilian goal of the evening came from the boots of MF Yasmin in the 36’, who got a ball outside the area and launched a lowly-driven shot that ended in the bottom right corner of net, extending the margin to 2-0 for the Copa America Femenina Champions.
Zaneratto stepped up again in the 54’, this time getting past Argentina GK Laurina Oliveros and sending the ball to the back of the net after the Argentinian defensive line wasn’t able to clear the ball from their área.
La Selecao didn’t hold back and made it 4-0 when FW Gabi Nunes was ready in front of La Albiceleste area in the 62’, scoring via a header.
Argentina showed the courage and resilience that fans saw in the Group Stage, as MF Celeste Dos Santos pulled one back in the 82’ when she controlled a long pass and chipped the ball over the head of Brazilian GK Luciana and into the net to make it 4-1.
The last goal of the evening for La Canarinha came in the 90’+5, once again Zaneratto being at the right place at the right time, getting a brace by firing a ball across goal and past Oliveros that ended in the right side of the net, closing the game for Brazil, 5-1.
