I get why someone would argue for Pele. Maradona.. yes, he was good. His performances at Napoli and 86 Argentina were just phenomenal. However, he was only good for 4-5 years. Whereas Messi has been on top for roughly 14 years now. Yes, Messi hasn't been as good in the past three years, but even then he is still one of the best and was able to lift the WC.

When one grows old, his eyesight is certainly affected. I grew up with Pele as my idol and then Maradona came and showed he is a sensational player. When Messi arrived in the football scene, he totally mesmerized me and I have not seen a player that surpassed my standards of an ideal great football player. Those who fail to see how greatest of all time Messi is, specially the old has-been football players, is most probably because of their deteriorating eyesight and stubborn beliefs of what is great.

I remember Maradona. I watched him play, he was the best. But even if the game was more physical and pitches were worse, I really believe that Messi is more skilled. About Pele, I'm sorry but he comes 3rd. He was great in 1958, but in 1962 and 1970 World Cups, Brazil would've won with or without Pele.

To say Messi is the greatest of all time is nonsense. Barcelona were great, winning everything and even better before he joined that team, and when those Barcelona players went their own way to play for Spain and Messi went to play for Argentina, the Spanish players continued to win everything without him. The Barcelona players never needed Messi, he needed them. And now he wins a world cup after Argentina were handed 5 penalties in 7 games which is the most obvious bias one could imagine to help him win the world cup. Sure he is a great player, but the greatest is an unfair tag to put on someone who lost 4 finals while other greats won their finals. The hero of Argentina in the World cup final and the Copa America final Argentina won was not Messi, it was Di Maria. Unlike other greats such as Pele, Maradona, Ronaldinho, Zidane and even Ronaldo and others, Messi has been a great player now in decline who has never been good enough to take his team to win a final, he has waited around until a team good enough to win it for him arrives. And why has he struggled? Because he can only do a few basic headers, he can only shoot with one foot from outside the box, he cannot tackle and may even carelessly lose the ball as he did in the final resulting in France's second goal, he cannot dribble through a dense crowd of players, he misses penalties, he disappears in the most critical games, such as finals unable to deal with the pressure and lets his team mates take the responsibility of getting over the line to win finals, and the list goes on. All he has won has been because of a Barcelona team that would have won everything they won even if they were without him as they continued to do with Spain without him while he was losing finals and winning nothing with Argentina. Yes he is one of the greatest players we have seen, but no where near the greatest. I'd rather have Maradona on my side and be more confident to win, and even more so if my team was poor. As for who I would prefer out of Maradona and Pele, well Maradona found Pele's standards and achievement so great in his quest to equal or supersede them that he found himself turning to drugs and that pretty much makes it clear Pele was the greater player and indeed the greatest. Every fact, statistic, achievement and ability in all practices of the game with and without the ball indicates this without a doubt. Peace and love

Delusional people still underrated Messi who dominated all attacking stats throughout 15 years, who earned all possible trophies and individual rewards in all the competitions, who would be easily in top of every attacking categories, and who can help team mates in terms of vision, making decisions, controlling the ball, passing, and even leading team as a unity. Maradona is Genius but he was only the best play maker in a couple of years. Pele might be the greatest in the 20th century but he mostly was the best scorer rather than the best player of the tournament. This is very very very hard to appear a player like this. It not only requires his own skills but also the game allows him to do that. Football has developed, and I am not talking about level or the difficulty or competitiveness of the game, my evaluation is based on the dominance of Messi in terms of everything that a player can dream!

Now if you look at club level, which is the majority of their playing years, Messi is by far, by faaaaaaar superior to them. 10 La Liga's, 4 champions league, 7 Ballon D'ors, 6 European Golden Boots. I love how no one is talking about the fact that Argentina was almost robbed off the world cup,with mbappe's second penalty and 3rd goal that was a clear handball by the France player which deflected the ball to the feet of mbappe,the penalty was allowed just because they wanted to get the highest scoring world cup tournament,and in turn robbed messi of being the Golden boot winner,am sure if Argentina had lost the officials would have come up with a pathetic apology 😏,but am happy Messi didn't loss the world cup because of this horrendous last minute officiating
