That title didn't age well
gold
KD: “ I played with top top players and they never take penalty” WHAT????? Like what are you all talking about? You guy us do not make any sense whatsoever
Next you all will ask ‘should Mbappe shoot for goal?’ You guys are legitimately unqualified morons who think they know futbol. Resign, Retire, Retrain
No
hi everyone , we got our answer today. He is the KING.
No 😂
He scored 2 today 🤪
Stop debating. He just scored 2 pressure-packed penalties in beating the Netherlands at a World Cup. Nerves of steel.
Compare the keepers from this group and those of ANY OTHER GROUP this one had the best this was not only the most entertaining group but the REAL group of death
Messi just finds it difficult when under pressure
I dont think is a good idea have messi taken the penalty, the guy is not a good penalty taker
Messi literally missed a penalty that cost Argentina a Copa America trophy. He missed one against Iceland last world cup that cost them a victory and missed one against Poland where his teammates covered his blushes and carried him to a victory. The guy chokes unless he's stat padding against teams like Eibar or St. Etienne… let Martinez or DiMaria take the penalties and quit letting Messi's ego cost you games.
I'm an avid Messi fan, but Argentina means more to me than any 'one' player. I know for a fact that Lautaro is better at PK's than Messi. Messi wants to win. He's not concerned about being the best scorer. If they start using Martinez, so be it…
Name 1 player in the squad apart from new players who have never took a penalty in argentine who is better than Messi at penalty? just one ?
But pessi won't be able to get a goal then 🤣🤣🤣
Head-to-head should always be the first tiebreaker. Teams would have more incentive to win, which makes for more exciting matches.
The 2 teams where fair play could’ve been the decider were Poland and Mexico, not Argentina and Mexico. Question is wrong.
Messi has missed 5 international penalties, Ronaldo has missed 7. Would love to see espn discuss whether CR should stop taking pens for Portugal. The worst thing about the espn "pundits" is that their general knowledge of statistics is very poor and they don't even bother to learn more to operate with data, not opinions. Concerns every team/player, not just Messi
Ronaldo has missed several penalties, including last season against Villarreal. Lewandoski missed against mexico. Let's just agree the keeper was doing his job.
Messi penalty was a good penalty the save was just even better
The most clueless team in this world Poland very pathetic
Yes-he’s brilliant but doesn’t have the mentality for the PK’s
Definitely!! Especially in World cup
Frank Leboeuf scored 91.3% of his penalties. The average is about 80%
Watching frank is so funny
I find it really amusing that people assume Messi is really bad at the spot. Nope, I am not defending him, but in all honesty, how can a guy who has scored over 100 pens be bad at this.
Penalties are mostly oxymoronic in the world of football. While Messi and Maradona can be considered one of the greatest of all time, they have a relatively above-average track record from the spot. Even by Cristiano Ronaldo's standards, a conversion rate of 83% is not good cause you don't associate the numbers 80, and 83 with players of their caliber.
Coming to my second point I feel for every 10 penalties he takes Leo scores 8 of them and kinda messes up a crucial penalty in a big game at least in the recent years or so against PSG, Real, and now Poland. But he still does score 8 of them and a player of his stature, experience, and skill always has to be one of the first names on the teamsheet for taking a penalty. Also, Messi has been in 9 penalty shootouts throughout his career and has always stepped up first and converted on 8 occasions barring the Chile miss in 2016. That said I would still like him to improve his track record tbh.
goat who cant score pen
Messi converts most of his penalties. He misses some obviously but he still has higher penalty conversion ration than most of the active footballers who's taken over 50 penalties in top leagues. He's just not as good as Ronaldo in penalties and Messi being one of the GOATS people highlight on this aspect too much
If Messi wants to take it, he will take it. And he'll always want to take it. It's not about maximizing the scoring opportunity by a few theoretical % points that matters, it's the leader of the team taking ownership and putting himself over anyone else on the team in the highest preassure situation. It's called leadership.
The question should be why is the referee giving Argentina so many penalty kicks.
Messi takes the pens because he wants to take responsibility. It's not about his ego or anything
Pls keep Frank in this show!!!
Imagine if it was Cristiano not converting the penalties as this panel hates CR7
Remember Mario Kempes 1978, Maradona 1986 both missed their penalty for Argentina so let’s watch till the end
… What?
He misses one pen and the world ends. It’s a part of the game. I don’t care who’s on the pitch: if Messi is playing, he’s taking it.
Who asks these stupid questions. Messi should take them and will score the next pen as well. He's scored far more than he missed…and people who write these question should realise taking a pen is not an easy thing.
Ok if Messi misses 6/10 , give it to another. Not a case. So say whatever you wish
