Friendlies are used to try out new players.
My only issue is that Scaloni has played 4-6 friendlies before the Venezuela game and he won about 5 of them and only conceded maybe 1 or 2 goals. So, why not keeping using those players and then mix them up with players from the world cup? Instead, he calls up new players.

The only explanation feasible in this situation is that Messi excels when he plays with other superstars at Barcelona, but in a normal team he’s just human.
