The truth is we will never know but the facts are that Ronaldo has scored many more goals than Messi against the top ranked 40 teams in the world in official matches , whereas Messi has more goals in friendlies ! Maybe European qualifiers provide more games and therefore goal scoring opportunities , but it’s harder to qualify for the finals , only the winner of a group qualifies ! Look at what happen to Italy beaten by lower ranked Macedonia ! Whereas in South America only 10 teams and 6 qualify ! So Argentina and Brazil are always almost guaranteed a spot at the WC ! We can also say that if Ronaldo had been Argentinian he would have already won a World Cup if you want to go with the « if » analogy !
