29. Let me start by saying that I am not a Argentina or a Barcelona fan. I am just someone who is fond of this great sport, but that doesn’t prevent me to be realistic about it. This Shaka fellow who as a player was practically a nobody, not because he has 0 trophies to his name but also as a player he was practically invisible. Shaka Hislop gained notoriety only as a pundit on ESPN, especially for his “critics” about Messi. I am not surprised he doesn’t want to admit it because if he does, he will be no longer needed. It’s not like his work as a pundit has been impeccable. As far as former great players are concerned I will tell you this. When Pele played professional football his opponents had jobs while playing football. The only one really ultimate modern football player was Maradona. The only debate here is between Messi and Maradona. I agree that Maradona had to suffer a very tough way of playing but even in his time the players weren’t as physical as they are nowadays. For example in the 80 a striker was always faster than a defender, a player averaged 5 km per game. Nowadays a lot of defenders are faster than their opponents and almost every player averages at least 10 km per game.
