Carlos Tevez, a former Argentine football player, started his coaching career on Friday by losing to Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata 1-0 at home.
Rosario Central, a well-liked team from the province of Santa Fe, is in need of improving a losing streak that has left them close to the bottom of the league. Tevez, who gained fame as a striker for Boca Juniors, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Juventus, took over as the team’s head coach a few days ago.
Despite the defeat, Tevez remarked at a news conference, «I loved it a lot; it’s a fresh emotion that I lost as a player and now as a coach it all came back to me.»
In its debut game under Tevez, Central, or the «Canalla,» shown progress from earlier defeats. Lucas Gamba, the club’s striker, almost scored for them in the first period.
Gimnasia discovered a scoring opportunity in the 79th minute of the second half when Uruguayan Brahian Aleman’s long ball found Paraguayan Ramon Rosa, who scored a straightforward goal.
